Debates rage on, citizens take sides, agendas are exposed and so many of us are left not knowing who to trust.

The topics change but not the rhetoric – climate change, bee health, impacts of pesticides, GMO’s, water levels – all are met with circular arguments from both sides.

But some things are beyond debate, like the facts we outline below. Creating food sources does not happen by magic, all choices impact our water supplies, some in much greater quantities than others.

The 8 oz. steak you ate last night took 848 gallons of water to produce. The 12 ounce can of chickpeas in your pantry, 912 gallons of water.

As California, and many other parts of our world, battle terrible droughts and wonder when their next rain will occur, think about what you consume and how a few simple changes to your diet can make a bigger impact than you realize.
